You know what I’m talking about. Those weeks where you throw caution to the wind because you’re traveling, seeking new adventures, so, you pour another drink, go for the eggs benedict at brunch, and who can forget about that fabulous bread basket.
Oh yea, that was me this past week. Traveling to and from New York City, coming back to South Florida for a wedding and entertaining. Countless glasses of wine and whiskey, gourmet foods, and chocolate.. OH GOD, THE CHOCOLATE! It’s been a whirlwind. But this morning, my body pretty much hates me and is asking ‘WTF did you do to me?!?’
Body, I apologize and I’m going to make it up to you. It’s time for my favorite detox. It’s not a juice cleanse or anything crazy. It’s simply fresh clean eating: organic, natural, grass fed, and pasture raised foods. The detox focuses on lean proteins and tons and tons of vegetables (and yes, there’s some chocolate!) Here’s the hard part, if you really want to go full throttle into this, NO ALCOHOL and if you must drink coffee, make it black. Fluids you can drink are water with or without lemon, green or herbal tea (no sugar), and I like to add this amazing lemon water from SUJA called “Lemon Love”. So good.
So, here we go, this is what it looks like:
Start off with 1/3 cup of oatmeal with half of a banana and some cinnamon.
Also with breakfast, 1 cup of egg whites (about 6 eggs without the yolk).
A few hours later, enjoy half a cup of cottage cheese and you may add berries for flavor.
For lunch, 6 oz. of lean protein, like fish or chicken and as many veggies as you want.
Oh yea, you also can have an apple with lunch. Don’t they look amazing! I love apples.
Dinner, same as lunch, but unfortunately no apple
After dinner, this is my favorite, half a cup of greek yogurt (ok I do a little more than half a cup) with a teaspoon of nut butter, a teaspoon of cocoa powder, and a teaspoon of honey. Mix that up and it is seriously heaven. Like a chocolate mousse. Oh my god, my mouth is salivating thinking about it.
And that’s it! Try to drink about 12 glasses of water throughout the day, and workout at least 4 times a week for an hour each time.
I’m telling you: Energy, alertness, good sleep, and overall feeling awesome. I don’t really think of it as a diet but it does feel so good after the week I just had!
Well, now it’s back to the fashion world for me and figuring out how I’m going to make these damn crop tops work this year. I’ll let you know how that goes next week!
